On September 25th, 2007, the world poker tour Enterprises (WPTE) has finalized a five year agreement with well-known American pub poker organization, the Amateur Poker League (APL), to feature and offer the World Poker Tour gaming experience to different facilities across the country.
The American Poker League and the World Poker Tour Enterprises have collaborated to establish the World Poker Tour Amateur Poker League or the WPTAPL. The WPTE states that the APL holds more than 500 free poker tournaments in 180 different facilities in more than a dozen states in the U.S.
All of the participants can now receive WPTAPL points and will be put on a leader board at the website of the WPTAPL. By earning WPTAPL points, players can participate in regional tournaments and regional champions can participate in the WPTAPL championship tournament that will be held in Orlando, Florida in April 2008.
The champion of this event will get a $10,000 entry fee into a World Poker Tour event. The WPTAPL will also give one of their players a slot into the WPT Celebrity Invitational every month.
The tournament is an invitation-only event in which the champion can get a slot into the $25,000 entry into the WPT championship. The WPTE has also finalized a five year agreement with Classic Gaming Cruises to make the WPT Cruises, which will set sail in February 2008.
