On April 28th, 2008, showing that anything can happen during the heads-up showdown, David Chiu from Full-Tilt poker was able to defeat team mate Gus Hansen even with a five-to-one chip deficit lead and win the world poker tour title. Chiu, who is a four-time WSOP bracelet winner, won his first World Poker Tour title. He also won $3.4 million.
Gus Hansen, who was unable to win his fourth World Poker title, won $1.7 million for his efforts in the poker tournament which he failed to win even with his overwhelming chip lead. Hansen was quite impressive on the first stage of the final table, edging out four out of his five opponents in just twenty-two card hands. His astounding performance gave him $22.9 million in total chips against Chiu's $4.3 million in total chips.
Chiu's victory gave him his first poker title in 3 years and the biggest payday of his entire career. This is a good momentum for the year set by Full Tilt poker players which includes Howard Lederer, Erik Seidel, Chris Ferguson, Phil Ivey, Jennifer Harman, Gus Hansen, Huck Seed and David Pham.
