On October 4th, 2007, poker pro Hugo Asenjo is the champion of the Extreme poker tournament in Sydney, Australia. Six poker players played against each other at a No-Limit Texas Holdem poker event.
Elimination from the contest meant taking a 90-meter high dive. The 4th international extreme poker tournament was held in a platform hung above 90 meters of the Pacific Ocean just outside of Sydney.
About six poker players in Sydney accepted the challenge and five of those players had to make the dive when they did not last in the tournament. Hugo Asenjo went against Andrew Cha, the current chip leader in the heads-up showdown.
Asenjo will have the opportunity to compete in the Extreme Poker finals in the Caribbean this December. Some of his opponents will be Robert Varkonyi, Juha Helppi, Nick Grudzien and Fredrik Haugen.
Previous editions of Extreme Poker have seen players playing poker underwater, in the Arctic Circle and on a plane over Las Vegas. Extreme Poker founder Peter Marcus said that Sydney has been their most extreme event and they will definitely hold it again in Sydney next year.
