Huck Seeds Wins the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship

On March 10th, 2009, poker pro Huck Seed has long been considered to be one of the most outstanding No Limit Holdem players today. In 2008, he won the Canadian Open Poker Championships, a heads-up poker event similar to the format of the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship.

Now he has the privilege to add that title on his poker resume as well. Seed defeated Vanessa Rousso on the finals held in Las Vegas, Nevada to take home the $500,000 first place cash prize and win the title he has been close to winning on different occasions.

In 2005, the first year of the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship, Seed finished in 9th place. He followed that up with the 3rd place finish in 2006. He finished in 9th place again in 2007 before finishing in 3rd place again last year. In the first match of the best-of-three poker finals, Huck Seed had Vanessa Rousso down by 200,000 chips when he called all-in on her pre-flop. Rousso then showed Q and J and found her card hand edge out by Seed's K and J.

The match gave Seed a 1-0 lead on the heads-up showdown. The next match between Seed and Rousso followed the same pattern and took just under one hour to finish. With the board showing K, eight, three and T, Rousso decided to go all-in and Seed called. Rousso showed J and T and Seed revealed K and 7. Rousso take home $250,000 for finishing in 2nd place. That pushes her poker tournament earnings to more than $1,000,000.
