
On May 25th, 2009, poker pro Ashton "theASHMAN103" Griffin won the Full Tilt $25K Heads-Up World Championship edging out a playing field of the world's best poker players. A total of sixty-three players participated in the event which solely focused on the $551,250 1st place cash prize when play started on Sunday, May 24th, 2009.
But as well-known poker pros like Gavin Smith, Phil Ivey, Erick Lindgren and Andy Block all hit the online rail, PokerStars LAPT San Jose final table member Griffin push his way up the ranks, edging out GrindMode, Isaac "luvtheWNBA" Haxton, David Singer and Past to go all the way into the semifinals. Meeting him there was online poker player Blair "yogiblair" Anderson, who had also edge out a respected group of players, including 2008 world series of poker final table member to book his slot.
Griffin quickly dismiss Anderson, establishing an early lead and eventually besting Anderson's fives with his queens. The other semifinal showdown saw Full Tilt Poker Pro David Benefield facing off against Jim "WinnerFish" Kilarjian. But it was Benefield who will be facing Griffin when establish an early lead by defeating Kilarjian's pair of aces.
