J.C. Tran is on a hot streak. Since October 2006, he has taken home about $2.6 million in total prizes. On March 28, 2007, he took home a total of $700,000 as the champion of the WPT's World Poker Challenge with a $5,000 buy-in cost, which was held at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno.
J.C. Tran defeated 474 players in order to capture the WPT event crown. This was the first tournament that J.C. Tran played in after placing 2nd at the WPT L.A. Poker Classic, which had 791 participants. The poker tournament had a $1.17 guaranteed prize pool.
He has also won a $25,000 worth of buy-in cost for the WPT championship. In addition, he is the leading player for the Card Player Magazine Player of the Year standings at 3,504 points. The final table at the World Poker Challenge was composed of Tran, Mark Seif, Juan Carlos Alvarado, David Pham and John Hom. Juan Carlos Alvarado was the runner-up in the event, taking home around $366,798.
Pham was the early chip leader, but he just managed to finish in 3rd place and take home a total cash prize of $182.260. Mark Seif finished in 4th place and took home a total of $159,478 in total prizes. Hom was the 2nd player to leave the table.
Hom finished in 5th place with $136,695. The 1st player to leave the table was Danny Wong. He took home $113,913 in total prizes.
