Tony Guoga came out the victor of the Betfair Asian poker Tour held in Singapore after taking control of the final table on the third day of the competition. All throughout the competition, Guoga showed sharp banter and aggressive play.
Guoga had a challenge shaking off competition from poker pro Lee Nelson, one-time chip leader Samuel Lehtonen, and local player Joshua Ang.
For his win at the Betfair Asian Poker Tour, Tony Guoga bagged $451,000, half of which he is donating to Asian and Australian charities to be nominated by the Betfair organizer.
"His offer of a 50% donation to charity is extraordinarily generous," said Betfair's Head of Poker, Ben Fried.
"I want people to know that poker is sport. This is not a large amount compared to what people like Bill Gates give to charity, but it is a gesture to show that it's not all about the money, it's about the competition as well," said Guoga.
Impressively, one of the local players, Joshua Ang, managed to win second-place after outlasting eight other players at the final table. He bagged $233,200.
Guoga was also the recipient of a Merlion trophy, the symbol of Singapore. He promptly gave it to Ang, saying the trophy would stay in Singapore.
