Poker legend, Gus Hansen, will be challenging some of the best poker players in the world at the Betfair Asian Poker Tour's inaugural event in Singapore. The game of poker has traditionally been illegal in Singapore. The $5,000 buy-in event, Singapore's first ever poker event, takes place November 12-17. The Danish Hansen will represent team Full Tilt poker.
Betfair is expecting more than $1 million in pot money for the event. Hansen will be competing against Betfair poker players Ben 'Milkybarkid' Grundy, Thomas 'Buzzer' Bhil and Swedish sensation Bengt Sonnert. Hansen is also expected to go head to head with some of Asia's best poker players, including Europe's top players for 2005, Singapore-born Willie Tan.
"I look forward to taking on some of Asia's best players, who I know to be challenging opponents because they are so aggressive, rather like me," Hansen said. "The Betfair Asian Poker Tour is Asia's first major poker tournament so I am very excited to be going."
According to Ben Fried, Head of Poker, "This project is breaking new ground. That is something we strive to do across the Betfair brand".
