Andreas Walnum, the player with the least experience, was the winner at the Festa Al Lago Main Event, making the World Poker Tour his coming out party.
23 year old Andreas Walnum of Norway bested 433 players to earn his first major tournament win and bag almost $1.1 million in the process.
Walnum beat Steve Wong for the title in only 2 hands of heads-up play. Walnum won with a pair of deuces that held up when he spiked a 3rd deuce on the flop. Walnum held a 2-1 chip lead going into heads-up play. Wong placed at 2nd and pocketed $542,000 in the event held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Joe Pelton came in 3rd, with his bid to becoming the 5th player to win 2 WPT events in the same season ending once he doubled up Walnum and Wong.
Pelton, known to play poker aggressive, moved in with A-9 and was no match against Wong's A-K. In another hand, he was again in trouble as he fell against Walnum's set of 6's, giving Walnum the chip lead. Pelton however, still showed impressive play, outlasting poker pros Can Kim Hua, high-stakes pro David Baker and Chris Loveland.
