World Poker Tour Makes a World Series of Poker Sammich

On May 30, 2007, in a move to become the official or the one and only "bread" of the World Series of Poker, the World Poker Tour has correctly placed themselves on both ends of the largest poker tournament in the world. In doing so, they created the "WSOP Sammich" (the urban term for sandwich).

With the start of the Mandalay Bay Poker Championship and the Bellagio Cup III after, the World Poker Tour is in a good position to capitalize on the Las Vegas strip becoming the center of the world of the game of poker for the next 2 months.

The bottom part of the bread in the "sammich" is the World Poker Tour Mandalay Poker Tournament championship event with a $10,000 buy-in cost starting that day with 227 players looking to gain experience and possibly win the $768,775 prize for first place.

Later that day, it was narrowed down to 110 players with several of the top poker players still in position to win the money. 3 time World Series of Poker winner, John Juanda, with 112,325 in total chips was the current leader.

He is followed by David Benyamine with 110,375 in total chips. Some of the known poker pros that are still in contention for the first place prize are Phil Laak with 47,000 in total chips, Antonio Esfandiari with 40,000 in total chips, Jennifer Tilly with 36,000 in total chips, Erica Schoenberg with 32,000 in total chips and current CardPlayer "Player of the Year" contender J.C. Tran with 10,000 in total chips.
