On June 5, 2007, it was announced that Kunihiro Sakamoto, who outwitted a playing field of over 2,000 players in the first ever All-Japan Poker Championship by SEGA SAMMY Group, a duly recognized satellite tournament of the World Series of Poker, will compete in the 2007 WSOP Main Event this coming July 2007.
The 2007 WSOP Main Event will take place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The All-Japan Poker Championship, co-organized by Japanese base newspaper organization, Yukan Fuji, to raise cash to benefit the Sankei Shimbun Social Welfare Association, a charitable group dedicated to promoting socio-cultural affairs.
Michael Chen, the President of Harrah's Asia Pacific Region, said that they are delighted with the opportunity to promote one of poker's noteworthy names but also to help a good cause.
Jeffrey Pollack, the commissioner of the World Series of Poker and VP of Harrah's Sports and Entertainment Division, said that they are happy to have the winner of the All-Japan Poker Championship at the 2007 WSOP Main Event.
The All-Japan Poker Championship is an important step for the WSOP organization in reaching the Asian market and they are looking forward to introducing more brands of the game of poker in the near future. The 2007 WSOP by Milwaukee's Best Light, started on June 1, 2007 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
