The 1st bracelet poker event at the WSOPE (world series of poker Europe) started on September 18th, 2009 but one Betfair poker pro has already achieved a $1 million win.
Anestis Metsas won the $1 million 1st place cash prize at Betfair's Free Million Dollar Game on September 17th, 2009, outwitting seventeen other Betfair qualifiers at the Casino at the Empire in Leicester Square. Metsas said that he cannot believe that he has won. He added that this win has given him the confidence to believe that he can compete with the best poker players in the international poker circuit.
The twenty-three year old poker pro from Greece qualified for the tournament through a series of online freerolls and a live regional qualifier. The path to Betfair's Free Million Dollar Game began in April 2009 with online freerolls leading to regional qualifiers with eighteen winners descending upon London to play out the live final.
With a rather lively audience in attendance, Metsas outlasted the other regional winner over a period of ten hours. The final card hand saw French poker player Kevin Michoud get it all in with a flush against the top pair-top kicker of Metsas.
