Release Date for the Poker Movie "Lucky You" Starring Drew Barrymore and Eric Bana

On April 13, 2007, it was announced that the poker movie, "Lucky You", might make it to the big screen this coming spring. After numerous canceled release dates from December 2005 to March 2007, the poker movie, featuring Drew Barrymore and Eric Bana is set to be shown in theaters this coming May 4, 2007. Production Officials said that the delays are due to production related issues.

The movie was made in about 7 weeks during the spring of 2005 and attracted the curiosity of entertainment reporters, online bloggers and poker bigwigs alike. The director of the movie, Curtis Hanson, directed LA Confidential and 8-Mile. The screenwriter of "Lucky You", Eric Roth, wrote Oscar award winning scripts for Forrest Gump and Munich.

Some of the famous poker personalities that made a cameo in the movie are Jack Binion, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Hoyt Corkins, Eli Elezra, Antonio Esfandiari, Sam Farha, Chris Ferguson and others. Poker Pros Brunson, Lester and Savage serve as poker consultants for the movie. Although there are many big name poker players in the movie, critics are suggesting that the interest in the movie may have cooled down already and it may not do well at the box-office.

The critics also used the rating for poker tournaments on television. The WPT has experienced a 25% slide in their ratings since their launch on the Travel Channel, a result officials are hoping to change by moving to the GSN Network.

The main storyline in "Lucky You" revolves around the game of poker. Huck Cheever, a talented poker player played by Eric Bana, who joins the 2003 WSOP tournament. The whole tournament has a feel of "survival of the fittest". Whether the movie will prove that its critics are right or wrong remains to be seen on its opening date. The only thing that might affect its performance is that it is set to open on the same weekend as "Spiderman 3".
