Two-time poker world champion Johnny "Orient Express" Chan will be returning to the Asian Poker Tour's event in Macau this August 2009. The ten-time world series of poker bracelet champion will be participating in the $4,300 Main Event of the twelve-day poker festival in Macau and take part in the filming of the "Poker King", an upcoming Chinese film about the poker in the Asian continent. Chan was born in China and only leave the country to pursue his passion abroad.
One of the most widely known poker players in the world, Chan has earned a total of $8 million in tournament winnings and was even immortalized in a well-known poker film "Rounders" where he played himself in a cameo role. The Asian Poker Tour, which is not to be confused with PokerStars.com APPT, was founded in 2006 and is considered as the premier Asian poker tour with tournaments held in the Philippines, Singapore and Macau.
Last year, U.S. based Yevgeniy Timoshenko defeated 256 players to win the APT Macau for $500,000. The Asian Poker Tour is also the home of the "Poker Pack", a group of Asian poker players who are ambassadors for the tour. The group includes poker players like Nam Le, J.C. Tran, Quinn Do, David "Chino" Rheem, Steve Sung and Kwang Soo Lee.
The 2009 Asian Poker Tour will be held at the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel and Casino in Macau from August 12th, 2009 until August 23rd, 2009 with the Main Event beginning on August 20th, 2009. Poker players can qualify for the event on Titan Poker, PKR.com, PartyPoker
