On May 21st, 2009, Jean "Prince" Gaspard won the final table at the Bayou Poker Challenge, taking home a total of $211,722 and his first WSOP Circuit ring. Gaspard, a professional poker player from Chicago, came into the 3rd and final day of the Circuit's $5,000 New Orleans poker finale with a substantial chip lead and never relinquished his position over the 5 hours of play.
He personally edged out Kurt Scheer in 9th place and Justin Allen in 7th place in pair of excellent hands to improve his stack up more than his closest rival in the event and maintain his lead as his rivals executed the rest of the eliminations.
Gaspard and runners-up Ken Christopher and Billy Kopp decided to divide the remaining cash prize between the three of them. Gaspard, who possess more than half of the gaming chips at the time of the cash prize chop, earned the WSOPC championship and a $10,000 buy-in cost to the Main Event of the 2009 WSOP.
