PokerStars Transfers EPT Moscow to Ukraine

The European Poker Tour stop in Moscow has been cancelled, but PokerStars announced on July 24th, 2009 that it is replacing the event with a new EPT stop in Kiev, Ukraine.

The Moscow stop of the European Poker Tour (EPT), scheduled to launch the EPT's sixth season in August 2009, was in trouble when the Russian Ministry of Youth, Sport and Tourism passed a resolution on July 20th, 2009 removing the status of the game of poker as a legal sport. It effectively banned the game from being held in Russia's four newly created gaming zones, which can be found outside of Moscow.

A release from PokerStars claims that EPT Moscow has been cancelled because of the European Poker Tour's ability to manage the event was placed in doubt. In its place, the European Poker Tour will debut its 6th season in Kiev, Ukraine on August 18th, 2009 until August 23rd, 2009 with the "EPT Kiev Sports Poker Championship" featuring a 5,000 euros Main Event.

The Kiev Sports Palace will play host to the poker tournament right in the heart of the Ukrainian capital. PokerStars players, who have already qualified for the EPT event in Moscow can have their packages change to EPT Kiev, take a credit for a future tournament or receive the cash equivalent. Ukraine does not require visas for individuals living in European Union member countries, United States and Canada when traveling for less than ninety days.

The PokerStars release stated that they appreciate the chance to bring the European Poker Tour to a historic place like Kiev and they look forward to discovering the sights and sounds of the Ukrainian capital.
