PokerStars.net Hosts LAPT in Rio De Janeiro

On May 2nd, 2008, online poker site PokerStars.net, welcomed poker players and media from all over the globe to the 1st Latin American Poker Tour in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The $2,500 No Limit Holdem poker event looks to be a big hit and promises to be a good event for the expected three hundred participants.

The total cash pool for the poker tournament is $750,000 aside from a substantial amount for the champion. LAPT President Glenn Cadematori commented that he was very happy about the staging of the first ever LAPT even in Brazil because Latin America is one of the fastest growing poker market in the world. Some of the well-known players who have joined the event are Team PokerStars pros Andre Akhari, Humberto Brenes, Vanessa Rousso, Chris Moneymaker, Greg Raymer, Victor Ramdin, Isabelle Mercier, Chad Brown and Gavin Griffin.

The event was held at the Intercontinental Hotel located at Rio's exclusive and private Sao Conrado beach. LAPT Tournament director Mike Ward commented that the LAPT Rio is a good event that will influence the growth of poker in Latin America.

The next event of the LAPT will be in San Jose, Costa Rica beginning on May 22nd, 2008. The event will end on May 24th, 2008. More than one hundred forty players are expected to participate in the event.
