Pescatori Wins $2,500 No Limit Holdem at the 2006 WSOP

Max Pescatori, of Milan and Team Brunson, finished first in the July 7 $2,500 No Limit Hold'em World Series of Poker (WSOP) event. Pescatori took home a paycheck of $682,389.

Pescatori's total winnings in his career have gone over the $1 million mark because of this victory, adding up to a total of $1,544,801. His win gives Team Brunson its largest payout and the first bracelet for the 2006 WSOP. Pescatori is currently a contender for the WSOP player of the year at 9th place.

Pescatori ($2,320,000) had a significant chip lead over Reategui ($900,000) just before the final hand. In the final hand of heads-up competition, Reategui, possessing a hand of Qc Td, raised $40,000 pre flop, which Pescatori, holding hold cards Jc 8c, called.

The flop was Tc 7d 6h, which gave Pescatori a straightforward straight draw. Holding a pair of 10s, Reategui bet $100,000. Pescatori raised the bet to $350,000, at which time Reategui went all in. The Kh on the turn was not much help to either player, but the 9d on the river provided Pescatori with a jack high straight and his first ever WSOP championship win. Reategui was not all tears though, as took home $356,040 for his second place finish.

Pescatori turned pro in 1999 and has played at the final table of eight major events since. He is also the proud owner of two WSOP Circuit rings. Pescatori, known as the "Italian Pirate," finished first in the 2006 The NPL-Vegas Open (No-Limit Hold'em), 2005 WSOP Tournament Circuit-Harrah's Las Vegas (No-Limit Hold'em), 2005 World Series of Poker Tournament Circuit -Atlantic City (Limit Hold'em), 2004 Legends of Poker (No-Limit Hold'em), 2003 World Poker Challenge (Omaha Hi/Lo), and 2003 World Poker Challenge (Limit Hold'em).
