On June 12th, 2009, a tough final table assembled to battle it out in the $10K deuce-to-7 Championship event. In the end, it was poker pro Nick Schulman from New York who won the title, the championship bracelet and the $279,742 prize money.
Schulman has had numerous successes in the poker circuit, including winning two world poker tour titles and nearly $4 million in prize money but winning the WSOP bracelet meant more than just the prize money.
Schulman said that the prestige of the WSOP bracelet is very overwhelming. He added that he is very proud and happy to he won the bracelet despite the tough playing field. The Deuce-to-7 championship gathers together the best poker players in the world and its winner can boast of defeating the best poker pros out there.
Poker pro Michael Binger and French high-stakes poker player David Benyamine were the first ones to hit the rail in 8th place and 7th place respectively. Vince Musso finished in 6th place followed by Archie Karas in 5th place.
During the four-handed play, Schulman looked to be the next one to go, but he was able to rise to the challenge and take the chip lead, sending John Juanda and Steve Sung to the rail. During the heads-up showdown with POY (Player of the Year) contender Ville Wahlbeck, Schulman had a two-one chip lead that he never relinquished, despite some ferocious play from Wahlbeck.
