The Charity Poker Tournament for the After-School All-Stars Nonprofit Group

At the Commerce Casino facility on May 14th, 2010, a diverse group individuals will come together to raise money for California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's nonprofit after-school program organization, After-School All-Stars.

Some of the participants in the tournament include poker pros Tiffany Michelle and Annie Duke; Hollywood actors Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda), Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond), David Zayas (Dexter) and Joshua Malina (The West Wing) and even politicians like Beverly Hills mayor Jimmy Delshad.

All will come to participate in the festivities surrounding the charity poker event designed to raise cash for at-risk youth. It has a buy-in cost of $250 with $100 rebuys, while individuals who just want to participate in the poker event but skip the poker tournament can come for $75.

With online poker site UB serving as one of the sponsors of the charity poker tournament, poker players will compete for up to $35,000 in cash prizes. Duke, UB poker pro, spoke about the value of the ASAS (After School All-Stars).

She said that ASAS is an excellent group since it helps youth living in some of the most poverty stricken areas in the US to avoid drugs and gangs. The group also provides a safe haven for them to while their parents work. It also provides school work support and other avenues for expression through numerous extracurricular activities.

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) is also one of the sponsors for the poker event. PPA Nevada State Director Diana Donofrio will be the guest tournament director for the event. Other poker players that are schedule to participate in the tournament include Adam "Roothlus" Levy", Rafe Furst, Karina Jett, Ali Nejad, Chip Jett and Nancy Todd Tyner.
