It will be business as usual for the 8th season of the world poker tour, despite the sale of almost all of the organization's assets to a private held investment organization. World Poker Tour Enterprises Interim Chief Financial Officer Thomas Flahie stated that at this point they do not anticipate any changes to the schedule of WPT Season 8.
He added that there are no dates or tournament locations are expected to change. WPT Enterprises announced on August 3rd, 2009 that Gamynia Limited had agreed to buy all of the group's operating assets including World Poker Tour's television, sponsorship, distribution and licensing units. Pending the approval of the company's shareholders, the $9 million is expected to be finalized in the 4th quarter of 2009.
Under the agreement, Gamynia is expected to push the World Poker Tour further into the online gambling market. Flahie stated that the buyers may even be interested in expanding the WPT. He said that the buyer has expressed interest in expanding the poker tour in Europe. He added that there is definitely a growing interest in expanding the tour outside of the U.S. gaming market.
Flahie said that the operations of the group will continue as normal and details regarding any possible expansion will not release until the sale is completed. The World Poker Tour's Season eight schedule continues later this month with the Legends of poker tournament at the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, California on August 22nd, 2009 until August 29th, 2009.
