Yevgeniy Timoshenko Wins the 2009 Five Star World Poker Classic WPT Event

On April 18th, 2009, it took quite some time but twenty-one year old online poker player Yevgeniy "Jovial Gent" Timoshenko won the 2009 Five Star World Poker Classic WPT Championship late Saturday night.

The achievement took 8 days and thousands of card hand but in the end, Timoshenko achieved the inevitable, edging out a final table that included well-known poker players like Shannon Shorr, Scotty Nguyen, Bertrand Grospellier, Christian Harder and runner-up Ran Azor.

This was Yevgeniy Timoshenko's 3rd live poker victory of his young poker career, after winning at the Irish Poker Open and at the Asian Poker Tour Macau main event. Timoshenko previously had several cash-ins on his poker career but the $2,149,960 he won at tournament eclipsed his biggest poker winnings since joining the poker circuit.

With this 3rd place finish, Bertrand Grospellier surpassed John Phan to become the WPT Player of the Year. Grospellier joins a respected group of poker pros that include Howard Lederer, Daniel Negreanu, Erick Lindgren and others.

The final table starting stacks and seating slots are Bertrand Grospellier with 5,955,000, Scotty Nguyen with 3,275,000, Shannon Shorr with 1,130,000, Yevgeniy Timoshenko with 13,300,000, Christian Harder with 7,425,000 and Ran Azor with 2,525,000.
