The online poker industry is filled with different poker rooms and gaming networks, which more often than or not, do not have good access to the market that the leading Internet Service Providers (ISP's) can readily provide. The main question has been what kind of effect an Internet Service Provider will have when it enters the world of online poker.
On Thursday, April 26, 2007, it was announced that online ISP giant Yahoo! will debut their own online poker site. The website is a collaboration between Yahoo and St. Minver Ltd., a gaming group based in Gibraltar. The online poker site will be under the International Poker Network, which is operated by Boss Media AB from Sweden.
This new development in the industry could have a big impact on the online poker industry. With the online reach of Yahoo! The online site could quickly become a huge player in the online poker industry. It could be only a matter of time until other ISP providers like Google follow Yahoo! in this endeavor.
America Online (AOL) operates online poker gaming, with most of its US market consisting of "play money" or fake money only poker sites, which seriously affects its performance and customer offering. Google, MSN, Windows Vista may consider joining the poker industry in foreign markets.
