The WPT North American Poker, SkyCity Championship and WSOP Circuit Indiana Events

On October 14th, 2008, a total of 454 poker players began their campaign for the world poker tour North American Poker Championships Title at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls. That makes for a cash pool of almost $4 million with the champion taking home almost $4 million with the champion winning over $1 million. A number of well-known poker players are still in the hunt on the World Poker Tour North American Poker Championships title including current chip leader Gavin Smith. Other top poker pros in the running include J.C. Tran, Kathy Liebert, Vivek Rajkumar, Sorel Mizzi and Erik Seidel.

Some poker pros like Daniel Negreanu and John Phan have already been eliminated from the tournament. A total of forty-five players will make up the North American Poker Championships prize money. In other poker events, Daniel Craker defeated a field of 306 poker players to win New Zealand's largest poker event. It was the Pacific Poker Tour Main Event in New Zealand that paid out over $155,800 for the 1st place winner.

Craker also gets an automatic slot into the Pacific Poker Tour Grand Final in Sydney. Finishing in 2nd place was Matthew Konnecke followed by Wang Jung in 3rd place, Dan Sing in 4th place, Luke Standford in 5th place, Nathanael Seet in 6th place, Jani Karke in 7th place, Michael Mariakis in 8th place and Wai Juen in 9th place.

Elsewhere, the world series of poker Circuit Tournament in Indiana is down to the final table of participants. Samuel Oberlin is the chip leader entering the final table. The chip counts for the final nine players are: Samuel Oberlin-229,500 chips, Jamin Stokes-189,000 chips, Len Ashby-177,000 chips, David Kopacz-151,000 chips, Jerry Martin-139,500 chips, Joey Couden-128,000 chips, Derek Whelan-117,500 chips, Dean Schultz-114,000 chips and Ray Lynn-17,500 chips.

The 1st place winner in this World Series of Poker circuit tournament will win $143,064 while the 2nd place winner will win $79,000. The drop off in cash is big at this final table with the ninth place winning just over $11,000. The event is being held at the Horseshoe Casino Hotel Southern Indiana. The entry cost for the main event was $5,000. Last year's winner was Carlos Uz who won more than $200,000, which shows the lesser number of entries this year.
