The World Team Poker Event at the Bicycle Casino

Claiming to be the first professional poker sports league in the world, World Team Poker celebrated its debut at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, California on August 6th, 2009. World Team Poker Director of Communications Gideon Cross said that this is the first time that the international poker circuit has anything like this before.

Director Cross said that although the structure of the World Team Poker league is still in the works, it will include thirty-two teams of five poker players representing countries from all over the world in heads-up challenge poker matches. Team captains are being chosen by World Team Poker and the captains are expected to pick their team members.

Eleven-time world series of poker gold bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth will lead Team USA, which will face Men "The Master" Nguyen's Team Vietnam in the inaugural event of World Team Poker which will take place in Las Vegas this November.

Cross said that although no dates have been confirmed, the second poker event on the schedule will see Team USA face back-to-back World Series of Poker Main Event champion Johnny Chan and Team China in Macau. World Team Poker plans to broadcast its poker events live online with interactive features allowing poker enthusiasts to talk with team captains and bet on the outcome of the games.
