The Information Technology (IT) community of South Florida displayed support for the IT Women's annual scholarship drive by taking a night out to play poker and casino games.
IT Women is an organization based in South Florida that was established to help in the advancement and development of women in the field of technology.
The 3rd annual fund-raiser was themed "CIO Celebrity poker tournament and Casino Night".
The event took place on November 16th at the Sheraton in Fort Lauderdale. The proceeds from the event helped 7 high school female seniors to pursue a path in technology. Scholarships will be awarded to the women in 2007.
Participating in the poker and casino night were over 200 IT professionals, educators and C-level executives. The event was sponsored by Citrix Systems, Deloitte, QUALCOMM, Robert Half Technology, Cordis, Jobing.com, Maroone, Momentum Consulting Group, S3, Ser-Mar Printing and Graphics and Business Wire.
Thanks to this annual event, IT Women was able to raise over $60,000 in scholarship funds over the past 3 years.
"The scholarship drive and IT Women's Role Models Outreach initiative is part of IT Women's mission to increase the number of girls entering technology fields," said Victoria Usherenko, President of IT Women.
"The Role Models program, showcased during the casino night, engages professionals to speak to young ladies ages 8 through 18. These professionals share their own personal experiences and career paths."
