On June 18th, 2008, another No Limit Holdem Event attracted a lot of spectators and participants at the Rio Casino and Hotel facility in Las Vegas. Around 2,076 players pay the $1,500 buy-in cost to have an opportunity to play for a cash pool of $3,693,690.
Poker player Vitaly Lunkin from Russia ended up being the champion of this 2008 world series of poker event. Lunkin was able to edge out Brett Kimes in the heads-up showdown to take home the WSOP champion bracelet and the 1st place cash prize of $628,417. With the existing language barrier, Lunkin was one of the more conservative participants at the final table of the No Limit Holdem poker event. His quiet character did not show his style of playing poker as Lunkin continues to edge out other players in the table especially on the pre-flop.
Lunkin seems to know when to start the action and when to back-off. During the heads-up showdown, Lunkin went all in against Kimes who then made the call. Lunkin pushed Kimes further into the ropes with his flopped straight but the board has 5 cards in the flush and the cash pot was reduced. Kimes never regain his bearings after that and Lunkin continued to dominate the action. Brett Kimes, who is from San Antonio, Texas won $387,837 for finishing in the 2nd place in the event.
