Two Singapore nationals are among the final 10 players who will vie for the $451,000 grand prize at the inaugural Betfair Asian Poker Tour. The event is Singapore's very first international poker tournament.
Neil Yong, a contractor, and Joshua Ang Pang Leng, a day trader, were the two lucky players from the host country who made it to the Final 10. They were among the 11 local players who entered the tournament on Wednesday, November 15th.
Being in the Final 10 already guarantees the players at least $17,500 for making it thus far.
2 days of poker play whittled down the field of 313 to just 10 by Thursday. The first day saw the elimination of some big poker names, including Singapore-born Willie Tann, Dane Gus Hansen, and Aussie Mel Judah.
The Singapore natives and the 8 other poker players in the Final 10 will battle heads-on at 4pm, November 17th.
The Betfair Asian Poker Tour is the largest poker tournament ever held in Asia. The event saw more than 700 payers coming from 32 different countries.
Some were not so lucky, like Singaporean Tan Wee Yee, who bowed out of the game on Wednesday night.
"It was a pity. I was probably half an hour away from qualifying for day 2. I didn't have much luck and the cards didn't go my way at the end. But it was a good experience, and I plan to fly to Melbourne to take part in another major tournament in January," said Tan Wee Yee.
