The WSOP Casino Employees Event

The WSOP begins more than a month and half of poker on March 30th, 2009 at 12:00 noon with event number one, the Casino Employees No Limit Holdem event. With 57 events available for the 2009 WSOP, there will be a lot of events that poker enthusiasts can choose from. The casino employee tournament is one of the three closed events in the WSOP. The other two events are the Ladies No-Limit Holdem Championship and the Seniors Tournament.

Aside from those events, anyone of legal age can register for the rest of the WSOP events and officials remain hopeful that this year will be as good as the previous years despite the financial crisis. Seth Palansky, Harrah's Entertainment Sports and Entertainment Group director of communications said that they do not judge the tournament as a failure or success on just the numbers. He added that they consider poker players as their customers and they entertain all who shows up to play. Palansky said that hotel reservations and pre-registration numbers are bigger this year than last year.

One particular event that players have their eyes on is the "stimulus special". It is a $1,000 buy-in No Limit Hold'em event. WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack had previously said that this event could surpass the player registration record of 3,929 players at the first $1,500 No-Limit tournament in 2008. Palansky said that prize cash pool for this one should surpass $5 million and the champion is likely to take home $1 million in cash prize.
