The Ante Up for Africa Poker Event

In the past two years, poker professionals and celebrities have come together to raise nearly $2 million for the humanitarian efforts in Darfur, Sudan in their Ante Up For Africa events. PokerStars announced on April 14th, 2009 that it would contribute and support the cause by hosting the inaugural Ante Up For Africa Europe Celebrity Poker Event on April 27th, 2009, the day before the main event of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Season Five Grand Final main event.

All of the prize money from the no-limit holdem poker event will be donated to help refugees in Darfur and to finance activism in an effort to resolve the problem. The event will start at 6:00 p.m. on April 27th, 2009 in Monte Carlo. Team PokerStars pros Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem and Vanessa all have confirmed their attendance at the 4,000 euros buy-in poker tournament.

PokerStars will give the winner of the tournament a prize package for its 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure tournament in the Bahamas. Ante Up for Africa has been featured at the WSOP for the past 2 years. In the inaugural Ante Up for Africa in 2007, Dan Shak and Brandon Moran agreed to give the 1st and 2nd place winnings of the event to the charity.
