The Start of the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Tournament Main Event

On December 12th, 2007, the last major poker event for this year is set to start at 12:00 p.m. as the main event of the Five Diamond World Poker Classic begins. The buy-in cost for this year's event is $15,000 + $400.

Last year, there were a total of 584 players for a total cash pool of $8.5 million. The 1st place cash prize last year was over $2.2 million and it was taken home by 2005 WSOP Main Event champion Joe Hachem. It is expected that the poker tournament will have the same participants as last year.

The final table last year featured Joe Hachem and Daniel Negreanu and poker enthusiasts hope that the final table will feature formidable players for this year's event. The first day-A will begin at 12:00 p.m. and the first day-B will begin at 12:00 p.m. the following day.

On Friday, the two fields will be combined and there will be four more days of poker action until the final table on December 18th, 2007. Joe Hachem won the event in 2007 as well as in 2006. In the 2005, the poker event was a $10,000 buy-in event and was won by Minh Ly, with poker player Dan Harrington finishing in 2nd place.

In 2004, Carlos Mortensen won $1 million for finishing in the 1st place with Kido Pham finishing in the runner-up position for $496,400. In 2003, Paul Phillips won in the event and takes home $1.1 million, with Dewey Tomko finishing in 2nd place for $552,000. In 2002 the tournament was won by Gus Hansen for $556,000 with John Juanda finishing in the runner-up position for $278,000.
