On February 25th, 2007, Hollywood actress Shannon Elizabeth, better known for her role as Nadia, a foreign exchange student from the American Pie movies, announced that she will join the Texas Hold'em poker tournament in Christchurch.
Elizabeth has officially entered the $500,000 New Zealand Open Poker Tournament which will be held at the Christchurch Casino. She is already a confirmed participant for the Christchurch Casino Celebrity Poker Challenge for Charity. Elizabeth, who has always been a huge fan of the game of poker, won her first tournament at the Nicky Hilton Caesars Palace New Year's Eve Poker Tournament.
Elizabeth was able to "cash in" at the 2006 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, Nevada. Stephen Lyttleton, representative of the Christchurch Casino, commented that this is a huge opportunity for the tournament to attract a lot of people with the presence of a really good player. He also said that Shannon Elizabeth is a formidable player and her opponents better not underestimate her.
Aside from her poker career, Elizabeth has starred films such as Love Actually. She has also appeared in That 70's Show, as well as many other movie and TV projects.
The 2007 New Zealand Poker Championships will be held in the Christchurch Casino and will be held from April 14-22, 2007. The tournament will be launched along with the Celebrity Challenge for Charity, which many New Zealand celebrities and poker players are expected to attend.
