On May 24, 2007, the first SA Poker Open held in South Africa at Montecasino was successful. All of the poker champions in Africa, veterans and beginners alike and even some online champions participated in the event.
PokerTime online player, Ryan S from the United States, achieved his all expense paid participation to South Africa and SA Poker slot earlier this month in the final table of the online poker tournament SA Poker Main Qualifier.
After a lackluster result from his unexpected early exit from the poker tournament, he shifted from a serious poker pro to a tourist.
Not only did the officials of PokerTime show their players from the United States the best tourist spots in South Africa, but they also showed the players Soweto, where the players eat different African cuisines and toured Nelson Mandela's home.
Nonetheless, it was the horse back safari and the lion tour that was the high point of Ryan's trip to South Africa. Ryan said that he will definitely return to South Africa for the next poker tournament bringing back his family.
With 105 players participating in the SA Poker Open, the prize pool for the tournament reached R2 million and the top 10 finishers took home plenty of money.
A television crew and a TV table captured all of the poker action and provided some good shots of the final table participants.
It was a heads-up showdown between Chip Leader Danny K and the SA Poker runner-up last year Jaime Vilela with Vilela's 4 of a kind winning him the 2007 SA Poker Open Champion.
