Russ Ortiz of the Giants Organizes a Charity Poker Tournament

A good example of the immense popularity of Russ Ortiz is the sheer number of celebrities who have joined the charity poker tournament that he organized at a casino in Scottsdale on Saturday night.

Some of the Giants baseball players that attended were Ray Durham, Matt Cain, Steve Kline, Rich Aurilia, Dave Roberts, Barry Zito and Barry Bonds. But there were also non Giants players like Johnny Estrada, Jeff and Jared Weaver, Jamey Wright and many more.

The tournament was attended by a total of 290 players who paid a $100 buy-in so that they could participate in the tournament for a chance to compete for a slot at the World Series of Poker main event which costs $10,000 per seat.

Russ Ortiz raised over $20,000 for the Ortiz Family Foundation charities. Some of the media correspondents in the tournament also did well. Andy Baggarly from the San Jose Mercury News and Jeff Fletcher from the Santa Rosa Press Democrat performed admirably in the tournament.

There were many outstanding players of the game of poker from the Giants team, like Barry Bonds. Bonds finished second in the charity poker tournament he attended earlier on in the spring. However, Bonds was not that lucky at this tournament, failing to finish in the money slots.
