Richard Webb Wins the Canadian Poker Tour Invitational Finals

On February 9th, 2009, the Canadian Poker Tour crowned Richard Webb from Dashwood, Ontario its national champion at the Canadian Poker Tour Invitational Finals. The top fifty players, who qualified to participate in the televised CPT event through a point system based on the overall results of 2008 poker events nationwide, participated in the final poker event held at the Ocean World Resort and Casino in the Dominican Republic.

Forty-eight year old Richard Webb qualified to participate in the event after winning the Blue Water Classic poker tournament at the Point Edward Casino in 2008. Webb is widely known to the CPT from achieving multiple wins at CPT events over the past five years and has also made some contributions to Canadian Poker Player Magazine. Aside from the $60,000 cash component of the cash pool, Webb also received a one year sponsorship deal from the Canadian Poker Tour worth $100,000 to represent the CPT at various poker events all over the world.

CPT President and Chief Executive Officer Kelly B. Kellner said that Webb is a great champion and they could not have chosen a better player to represent the organization. The 2nd place and $50,000 cash prize and was taken by former football player and two-time Grey Cup champion Bob Beveridge from Vancouver. The female participants made a strong showing at the poker event as two of the three female poker players placed 3rd and 4th. Angie Gelinas from Calgary and Carolyn Grad of Medicine Hat, Alberta won $35,000 and $20,000 respectively.

The Canadian Poker Tour, which is owned and operated by HeadsUp Entertainment International Incorporated, is now into its 2009 poker season and looks forward on hosting over two hundred fifty poker events thus year. With the debut of the CPT Players Membership Card, poker players will be competing to earn enough points to qualify for this year's national finals where the top fifty finishers will participate to the national championships and player for six one year sponsorship poker contracts for the following year.

The 1 hour television show showing the CPT Invitational Finals will air beginning on April 2008 on the Score Television Network, the official broadcast partner of the Canadian Poker Tour.
