According to police, the gambling case made against one of Sacramento's beloved sons, Richard Lee, has not been shelved. It has simply gone underground.
2 months have passed since the much publicized raid of world series of poker (WSOP) placer, Richard Lee's Shavano Park home, as well as the search of his alleged associate's residence, which took place without media hype.
The difference this time was, no luxury cars, plasma screen TVs and betting slips were seized from the home. The detectives only seized simple items that could very well be a fountain of information: a Rolodex, an address book, computer CDs and mobile phones.
Police also seized bank deposit slips, check stubs and tax returns. The recent search appeared to implicate Michele Stiehl-Guerra to the city's largest bookmaking operation.
Stiehl-Guerra is the cousin of Lee's wife, Carolyn and the warrant indicated that Stiehl-Guerra maintained players' lists for Lee. "Stiehl-Guerra is running her portion of the illegal gambling/sports booking operation from her residence," the warrant said.
Moreover, the warrant says a detective, "made an attempt to contact Ms. Stiehl-Guerra but she refused to talk ... other than to say that she did know Richard Lee."
As of now the police are pretty tight lipped about future operations regarding Richard Lee's case. It seems that the authorities are proceeding with poker faces.
