PokerStars Partners With amFAR to hold Charity Poker Tournament at the Atlantis Resort and Casino

PokerStars is collaborating with AIDS research foundation amFAR to host a charity poker event supporting AIDS awareness during next month's PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. A number of well-known charity celebrities, sports superstars and poker players are expected to participate in the $5,250 poker event set for January 8th, 2010 at the Atlantis Resort and Casino on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

Half of the prize pool will go to amFAR to support the group's research and help raise awareness regarding HIV/AIDS. Already confirmend for the charity poker tournament are former National Hockey League great Mats Sundin, tennis legend Boris Becker, French rugby star Sebastien Chabal and Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu.

Negreanu said that PokerStars is bringing a fulfilling cause to the PCA this year through their collaboration with amFAR. Negreanu said that as a member of Team PokerStars Pro, he feels lucky to able to participate in a worthy cause. PokerStars will be offering qualifying satellites for the charity event over the next month.

Aside from the amFAR charity event, the 2010 PCA will host fifty tournaments on January 4th, 2009-January 14th, 2009 and players will be encouraged to donate to amFAR.

amFAR vice president and director of development Gregory Boroff said that they are grateful to PokerStars for giving them the chance to bring AIDS awareness to a new set of audience and to raise funds for AIDS research.
