Poker appears to be thriving in the Philippines as PokerStars.com APPT Cebu attracted the biggest playing field ever assembled in the country. A total of 316 poker players bought in to PokerStars' third stint into the Philippines. The playing field created a cash pool of $622,000, of which $158,000 will be given to the winner.
This year, PokerStars shifted the APPT from the capital Manila to the five-star Shangri-La Resort in the province of Cebu. Poker players from thirty-six countries took part including poker players from as far as Sweden, Mongolia, Guam, Russia and the Ukraine.
APPT Cebu also attracted a number of poker pros including Team PokerStars Asia Pros, Tae Jun-Noh, Celina Lin, Jonathan Lin and Bryan Huang as well as Team PokerStars Australian Pros Eric Assadourian and Tony Hachem. Last year at APPT Manila, Australian poker player Van Marcus defeated Jun-Noh in the heads-up showdown to take home the 1st place cash prize of $162,856.
The 2009 edition of APPT Cebu will culminate with a final table on November 15th, 2009. The APPT's next stop will be the Grand Final in Sydney, which will take place on December 1st, 2009-December 6th, 2009. Qualifiers for the tournament are currently running on PokerStars.com.
