The Poker Events at the 2010 World Series of Poker

The 2010 WSOP had finally commenced on Friday, May 28th, 2010, Friday, and there was a lot of noise surrounding the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While the Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em event started off the WSOP, it was the Player's Championship that had captured the fans' attention. At 12:00 noon, the well-known "shuffle up and deal" announcement could be heard by all employees that participated in the first event of the 2010 WSOP.

Play continued all throughout the afternoon but by 5:00 p.m. the focus had shifted to the $50,000 dollars Player's Championship in which many of the well-known poker pros had joined. Legendary poker pro Doyle Brunson was there, working his poker skill early in the tournament that offered not just Hold'em poker but also other poker variations.

Dan Shak became the first poker player to go home in the tournament when he lost most of his chip stack to Dan Kelly, and a few moments later, lost his entire chip stack. Two poker players who are expected to perform at this year world series of poker are Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Howard Lederer.

The pair both raised concerns when they did not participate in the first major poker tournament of the summer but it were eased when both players showed up late. The Casino Employees event had 721 participants. The buy-in was $500 dollars and the prize pool is $324,450 dollars.

Of the hundreds of poker enthusiasts that entered in the tournament, only 90 players are left late in the evening. Shaun Harris is the current overall chip leader with almost 100,000 in total chips. Play will continue in both poker events on May 29th, 2010.
