PaddyPowerPoker held their second annual Christmas Cracker Tournament, hosting 117 of Ireland's aspiring poker champions at Dublin's Sporting Emporium on December 9th.
The hopefuls were hoping to get a slice of the 63,500 Euro prize pool.
PaddyPowerPoker gave a Christmas treat to the players by paying for their 500 Euro buy-in and even adding an extra 5,000 Euro to the prize pool.
Some of poker's more recognizable names turned up for the event, including Andy Black, Sideshow Bob, Dave Masters, Len Collin, Eoghan O'Dea and Tony Cooney. Even English nightclub impresario "Catman" graced the poker event.
"Let me tell you, the Irish are not totally mad gamblers; it might be the Viking in them, but they are tactically excellent. Never be fooled, their hospitality and charm is a tactical weapon in their aim to enjoy taking your every last cent," the Londoner said.
Catman, however, lost all his money in the event, but he did manage to outlast Andy Black, a finalist at the 2005 wsop main event.
Harold Huberman, last year's tournament winner, did manage to be in the money again after he finished 11th. Rory Rees Brennan, a PaddyPowerPoker regular, was the winner of the event, pocketing 17,950 Euro after 16 hours of grueling poker play.
Meanwhile, John O'Shea, placed second in a final table that included Michael Frisby, Lloyd O'Farrell and the irrepressible Kieran Walsh.
