The North Dakota State Championship Texas Hold'em poker tournament was a resounding success after hosting 600 poker players, both amateurs and professionals, just before the end of 2006.
From this field of 600, only one will be named champion, and the champion will be determined at the final table on the evening of January 2nd. The event has been taking place at Minot's Las Vegas Motel.
The popularity of the poker game has accounted for the year by year success of the tournament. For its 2006 season, the tournament is hosting players from 12 states, and even players from Canada's 3 Provinces.
The Manager of the Vegas Motel claims that the event is also a socio-civil effort, as there is more than one person to benefit from its staging.
"The whole concept was to create a marquee event for the community, where we could draw-in traffic and tourism during a time of the year when it was generally slow, that would benefit not only a certain organization, but (everyone in the community)."
Proceeds from the North Dakota State Championship Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament will benefit the MSU Alumni Association. The first place winner of the poker tournament will take home $25,000.
