Marty Smith Wins the Irish Poker Open

Famed Irish born poker player, Marty Smyth, was smiling on April 10, 2007 after winning the Irish Poker Open, taking home a total of 650,000 Euros.

Before Smyth won the poker tournament, many people were betting on former World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour player, Roland De Wolfe, who lead the majority of the action at the final table after having a small stack and possessing some good hands.

De Wolfe took out 4 players before getting booted out during the final face-off. In the showdown between De Wolfe and Smyth, there was a series of poker hands that were disputed before the Irish poker player won an important cash pot and broke De Wolfe's pocket 3's. Smyth finished off the tournament by having a larger flush compared to his opponent.

After the showdown, Smyth said that although he is really tired, he is very happy to win the title and the cash. He was also able to win the title for the game of poker in his country and that was very important to him.

The runners-up at the event took home a substantial amount as well. De Wolfe won 325,000 Euros, Sorel Mizzi won 210,000 Euros, Daniel Hugh won 175,000 Euros, Brian O'Keefe won 130,000 Euros, Nicky Power won 100,000 Euros, and Thomas Finneran won 75,000 Euros.
