Katchalov and Jaffe Wins Events at the 2009 World Championship of Online Poker Tournament

The goods keep coming for poker pros in the 2009 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). Both 2008 world poker tour Five Diamond champion Eugene "MyRabbiFoo" Katchalov and World Poker Tour and WSOP final table member Jonathan "Iftarii" Jaffe managed to win the heads-up showdown events on September 14th, 2009.

Katchalov had to go through 11 poker players to win the $530 No-Limit Holdem Heads-Up event and grabbed a total of $140,000 for his efforts. The tournament featured a vital overlay from PokerStars, which originally featured a guaranteed cash pool of $1 million but came short when only 1,564 poker players registered for the event.

Undaunted, PokerStars added an extra $218,000 and the participants who cashed in take home some extra value. Team PokerStars Pro member William Thorson came awfully close to winning the whole event but was eventually hit the rail to finish in 5th place during the 9th round.

Katchalov sent home online poker pro Jakuskhan in the last match of the tournament. In the final hand, JakusKhan made a bad all-in shove and Katchalov called him with a 2-pair.

Aside from that, Jaffe won the $25,000 No-Limit Holdem Heads-Up event and taking home a total of $415,000. The event drew a total of thirty-six players including well-known poker pros like Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Peter Eastgate, Sorel Mizzi, Daniel Negreanu, Ashton Griffin, Brian Hasting, Barry Greenstein, Bertrand Grospellier and many others.

Eastgate outlasted all of his fellow Team PokerStars members before eventually bowing out during the quarterfinals against Adonis 112. Adonis112 would go on to lose to Sifosis in the final 4 while Jaffe edged out Mizzi to guarantee his slot in the final round.

During the heads-up showdown for the title, Sifosis quickly jumped in a 2.5 to one chip lead but Jaffe managed to climb back and eventually grab the lead. In the pivotal card hand of the tournament, Jaffe flopped a trip 5's while Sifosis nailed down a 2-pair.
