On April 27th, 2008, despite the stringent gaming rules in Japan that even casinos cannot operate for business, the All Japan Poker Event will still proceed as plan. The organizer of the event, Global Mix, was able to host the event in Tokyo by imposing a rule that the participants of the event will not shell out any money for the buy-in cost and no cash will also be bet on the poker tournament.
Poker events that require the players to pay some sort of entrance fee are not allowed in Japan. The champion of the event will be awarded a bracelet and a ten thousand dollars buy-in cost to the 2008 world series of poker Main Event that will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The transportation costs of the winner will also be free. The prize package has been made possible through the help of AJPC, SEGA SAMMY, which has been recognized as an official satellite event of the WSOP.
SEGA SAMMY and Global Mix are trying to meet the growing demand in Japan for Texas Holdem poker. There is also a Ladies and Senior event in the tournament that will be held before the Main event on May 18th, 2008. Poker enthusiasts that are interested to join the All-Japan Poker event need to win one of the preliminaries that will be held in Osaka and Tokyo. Last year's champion was Kunihiro Sakamoto, who outwit over 2,000 participants.
