One of the most respected tournament poker players on the online poker circuit became a major live poker tournament champion for the first time in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 29th, 2009. Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron won the Caesars Palace Classic main event and its $246,928 1st place cash prize outwitting a final table full of the best poker players in the circuit.
Baron took control of the poker tournament immediately with several poker players remaining, sending home Theo Tran and severely crippling 2008 PokerStars European Poker Tour Grand Final champion Glen Chorny, rivering a straight with a pair of nines against the tens of Chorny and the big slick of Tran.
Baron never let go of the chip lead, taking a better than five-to-one advantage into the heads-up showdown. Veteran poker pros Kathy Liebert (8th place) and Jimmy Tran (5th place) also made the final table of the tournament. Chorny finished in 3rd place and Baron, who finished in 4th place at the final table in Monte Carlo when Chorny booked his tournament win, defeating Michael Benvenuti in the heads-up showdown to take home the title.
The $5,000 buy-in event attracted 162 players creating a cash pool of $762,129. Baron, who lives in West Menlo Park, California, has earned more than $3 million worth of online and live poker tournament winnings.
