On October 16th, 2007, the biggest tournament ever to take place in Colorado recently finished when Michael Haggard won the Heartland poker Tour event. The tournament was held at the Golden Gates casino facility in Blackhawk, Colorado.
The Heartland Poker Tour series started on October 1st, 2007 with qualifiers which are all sold out. The Golden Gates casino had 1,545 players for the qualifiers and filled to capacity the $1,500 buy-in cost tournament with 309 participants.
The total cash pool was $463,000. Because of the state rules and regulations, there was not a direct buy-in option available to the tournament so all of the participants had to participate in the qualifying events.
The top six players were Haggard from Evergreen, Colorado with $129,780, Steven Klaus from Denver, Colorado with $64,890, Michael Banducci from Traverse City, Michigan with $41,715, Jonathan Lima from Colorado Springs, Colorado with $32,445, Oliver Schlemko from Broomfield, Colorado with $27,810 and Vernon Waite from Grand Junction, Colorado with $23,175.
The satellite tournaments are now being held for the next HPT at the Lucky Nugget Card Club in Deadwood, South Dakota. The $1,650 HPT main event, which was well-attended last year, had to starting flights at 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on October 20th, 2007. The final table take place on the following day.
