November 14, 2007. Harrah Entertainment Inc. has expressed its desire to conquer the online market during the Global Gaming Expo and Trade Show held Wednesday.
Harrah Entertainment via its chief executive Gary Loveman considered the possibility of bringing its internationally renowned brand World Series of Poker tournament into the internet world in United Kingdom and continental Europe.
The new development is brought upon by the disappointing attendance Harrah's had during the world series of poker this year, when a lot of internet poker sites did not offer prize packages to players from the US.
Loveman also said that their consideration for an online poker was invoked by the prohibition for banks and payment centers to process and handle online cash transactions from poker players residing in the US as a consequence of the law promulgated by US President George W. Bush last year.
He added that UK and continental Europe as online prospects look attractive to them.
Gary Thompson, Harrah Entertainment's tournament spokesperson, said that the casino is weighing the online market and the legal matters surrounding their plan.
According to him, Harrah's will not continue with the online poker plan if in the course of the study, the casino sees significant hindrances.
