Harrah's Entertainment Releases New Tournament Rules for 2007 World Series of Poker

On February 28, 2007, Harrah's Entertainment announced new rules for the 2007 World Series of Poker, like logo prohibitions for players and a ban on third party player registrations from online gaming sites that accept US based players.

Harrah's Entertainment said that they have not accepted third-party player registrations from online poker rooms that allow US based residents for the last 2 years. However, the rules of the last World Series of Poker do not have any explicit details about the matter and many sources have mentioned that online poker rooms have processed registration for players who have qualified online over the last 2 years.

Aside from the ban of third party registrations, the WSOP rules also state that third party registrations will only be allowed if given out by duly licensed World Series of Poker sponsors or by land based entities that are officially recognized by the WSOP to hold satellite tournaments.

Nonetheless, ensuring that these new rules are followed will be rather difficult. Personal player registration has to be paid in hard cash or a cashier's check coming from officially accredited banks that are made out to the participants or the Rio gaming chips, especially the brand new $10,000 WSOP branded Rio casino chip.

WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack said that if a player shows up at the poker tournament with $10,000, they will allow them to play because it will be really difficult for them to trace where the money has came from.

The new policy of the World Series of Poker will also be like the NASCAR. Poker players can wear marketing advertisements that showcase dot-net online sites provided that the dot-net portion of the logo is the same size as the site name. Poker players can also wear different logos but they must not be larger than 12 sq inches.
