On Monday, October 30th, officials from Harrah's Entertainment announced that the 2007 world series of poker (WSOP) will begin on June 1st at the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
According to Harrah's spokesperson, Gary Thompson, the highly anticipated Main Event final table, will take place on July 17th. The schedule for all WSOP events will be released in 2 or 3 weeks time, added Thompson.
"The earlier dates will allow ESPN to televise the WSOP in the summer, avoiding the (Major League) baseball playoffs that can hurt ratings," Thompson said. "The result will be wider exposure for the players and higher ratings for the programming."
A proposed schedule with the Players Advisory Council is being considered by officials from Harrah's to ensure that the 2007 WSOP is more appealing for the entrants, said Thompson. The outcome of the said meeting will be taken into consideration before they release the final schedule.
"The 2006 World Series of poker was the best yet, but 2007 will be even better," said Jeffrey Pollack, World Series of Poker Commissioner. "As a first step, we've moved the starting date up and now we're developing an expanded and well-rounded schedule of events for 2007 that will appeal to both professionals and amateurs."
