Grant Levy Wins the APPT Final in Sydney

On December 14th, 2007, a teacher living in the Western Suburbs of Sydney has won a total of $1 million in the city's richest poker event. Grant Levy has taken home a record setting prize to become the first ever champion of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour(APPT) held in Sydney at the Star City Casino, after besting out 561 players including former world champions to win the event.

Grant Levy, a twenty-eight year old teacher and father of two children from Penrith, has been practicing in online poker tournaments and he was able to prove those skills in front of a home crowd that includes his wife and brother.

As the first Australian to become a big poker winner on home territory, Grant Levy said that he was still taking it all in but it is really unbelievable to think that he was able to defeat some of the best players in the poker circuit all over the world. Some of the top players that participated in the event are Joe Hachem (2005), Chris Moneymaker (2003), Greg Raymer (2004) and Scotty Nguyen (1998).
